Welcome to Diagram 2010!

The conference will be held at Portland State University (PSU) Ondine Building, 1912 Southwest Sixth Ave., Portland. Conference accommodation is at Broadway Building, 625 Southwest Jackson Street.
You may locate both in the campus map.

Those attendees arriving before Sunday August 8 must contact Doug at PSU Summer Housing ( shc@pdx.edu | +1 (503) 725.4336) and make arrangements to pick up the room key because Broadway does not have a staffed front desk. Student volunteers will be in the lobby of the building during Sunday August 8.

Attendees driving to Portland may park in the Parking Structure 1 at the intersection of SW Sixth and SW Hall streets. Parking is $11 per day, except for Sundays when parking is free.

Portland has an excellent public transportation system. A map is available here and a trip planner is available here.
Take red line from the airport, switch to yellow or green line and get off at the PSU station, and walk a few blocks to Broadway. The service is called MAX.

The Diagrams Conference Series

Diagrams is an international and interdisciplinary biennial conference series, covering all aspects of research on the theory and application of diagrams.

Diagrammatic representations are wide-ranging and open-ended, including sketches, drawings, charts, graphs, maps, geometric models, and other visualizations and animations. Diagrammatic representations significantly impact many aspects of human life and society ranging from art to design to science, from media to communication to education. The emerging science of visual analytics, which focuses on interactive use of diagrammatic representations for supporting human problem solving, is just one topical example of the need for studying diagrammatic representations and reasoning. In fact, there is a need for transformative advances in (1) understanding diagrammatic reasoning in humans, (2) understanding the use of diagrammatic representation for communication and collaboration among humans, (3) developing techniques for automated diagrammatic reasoning, and (4) designing interactive environments for use of diagrammatic representations for supporting human reasoning.

Co-location

Diagrams 2010 will be co-located with the 32nd Annual Meeting of the Cognitive Science Society (Cogsci-2010). This co-location will provide a lively and stimulating environment, enabling researchers from related communities to exchange ideas and more widely disseminate research results.
